Abortion Medication and it?s links to breast cancer?I heard at a medical conference that some medications that doctors give to patients after abortions are carcinogenic and could increase one?s chances of having breast cancer. Is there any truth to this?? please provide references with each answer

This is a common fallacy. There is no evidence that abortion is linked to breast cancer, therefore there is not a single medical organization that supports this correlation. Organizations such as the World Health Organization, The American Cancer Society, The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the National Cancer Institute have officially reputed these false claims.

According to WHO, ??results from epidemiological studies are reassuring in that they show no consistent effect of first trimester induced abortion upon a woman?s risk of breast cancer later in life.?

According to ACS, ?As of 2008, the scientific evidence does not support the notion that induced abortion raises the risk of breast cancer.?

According to ACOG, ?There is no evidence supporting a causal link between induced abortion and subsequent development of breast cancer, according to a committee opinion issued today by The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).? (July 31, 2003)

According to NCI, ?In February 2003, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) convened a workshop of over 100 of the world?s leading experts who study pregnancy and breast cancer risk. Workshop participants reviewed existing population-based, clinical, and animal studies on the relationship between pregnancy and breast cancer risk, including studies of induced and spontaneous abortions. They concluded that having an abortion or miscarriage does not increase a woman?s subsequent risk of developing breast cancer.?

There is no evidence that ANYTHING will give you cancer after one, two or perhaps three exposures, and since few women have more than one or two abortions, this seems likely to be a somewhat ?tall tale?, don?tcha think?
