According to his own website, Matt Furey was born in Carroll, Iowa and began to compete in both swimming and wrestling events at the young age of eight. He began a champion in both of those and was the state runner up in 1981 at the Class 3A Iowa High School State Wrestling Championships. At that time he weighed only one hundred and sixty seven pounds. Furey was a member of three different national championship wrestling teams and also wrestled for the Olympic Gold Medalist Dan Gable while attending the University of Iowa from 1981 until 1984.

Furey then moved to Edinboro University in Pennsylvania in the fall of 1984. His plan was to help rebuild the doormat wrestling program which was in place there. He was the winner of the NCAA II National Title in 1985, winning over the State Champion of California, Howard Lawson, who had won the title twice before. Furey opened his own business for personal training in the winter of 1987. At that time he mostly worked with high school wrestlers, who went on to wrestle in college as well. But Furey soon saw an untapped niche.

Putting Knowledge and Experience into Real Entrepreneurship Practice

?

In 1990, Furey started training and learning about different methods of martial arts, and very quickly realized the potential that one would have by combining these arts with the moves of wrestling. It was this discovery which brought about Furey?s very first book entitled ?The Martial Art of Wrestling? in 1996. That was also the year in which he started competing in Shuai-Chiao, which is the oldest form of kung fu, an ancient grappling art from China. Dr Daniel Weng was Furey?s teacher- a ninth degree black belt and Taiwanese national champion. Under his direction, Furey went on to win three different national titles.

With this and much more experience under his belt, Furey?s personal training and coaching business has expanded dramatically. Furey took what he learned from each of his teachers and mentors, as well as what he found out through discovery and studying on his own, and made it into a lucrative business. His unique, firsthand experience in the world of Chinese kung fu and wrestling has gotten him featured in such magazines as ?Grappling?, ?Inside Kung Fu?, ?Karate Illustrated?, ?Gladiator?, and ?Martial Arts Illustrated?. He was called ?The King of Catch Wrestling by Grappling in 1992. He was also named 2010 Hall of Fame Writer of the Year by Inside Kung Fu.

?

?

?

Matt Furey has also written many other books, which include the international best seller ?Combat Conditioning?, as ?The Unbeatable Man?, ?Combat Abs?, ?101 Ways to Magnetize Money?, ?The Fastest Way Humanly Possible to Burn Fat?, ?Gama Fitness?, ?Magnetic Mind Power?, and ?Combat Stretching?.
