Christopher Guest's Family Tree Is Really About the Genealogy of ...

Family-tree-hboAs mentioned in earlier articles in this newsletter (as mentioned last year at http://goo.gl/HxGeV and more recently at http://goo.gl/kDWZA), a new television program called Family Tree will appear on HBO this Sunday evening. However, one word of warning: this will not be a genealogy program!

Despite the name, this is a mockumentary comedy, not a "how to research your family tree" program. The comedy series follows Tom Chadwick (Chris O?Dowd in charming loser mode) as he tries to learn more about his ancestors. His family tree is described as "a world full of weirdos." Tom learns that a great aunt has left him a trunk full of strange objects, and with nothing else to occupy his time, he sets out to learn more about the family members they belonged to. It seems that none of his family members qualify for the title of "normal."

I still hope to watch Family Tree but I expect to watch a great comedy program, not a program showing how one person researched his ancestry.
