Museveni Raises Shs 80m For St. Henry?s College, Kitovu

?I am happy to hear that over 70 percent of the students are doing science subjects. It is not only good for the country but also for the students themselves because they can easily get jobs nationally and internationally,? he said.

He observed that the effort was also good for parents as they will not have labored in vain to educate their children.

President Museveni was today Saturday the chief guest at the fundraising drive at St. Henry?s College Kitovu in Masaka Municipality, to realize funds for the construction of a dormitory, expansion of classes as well as for the building of the school?s laboratory.

Over Shs.2.6 billion is required to put the facilities to be able to accommodate the growing population of the school that today stands at over 1,200 students. Over Shs.200 million was realized in cash and pledges. The President who auctioned a heifer at Shs.50 million, made a contribution of Shs.80 million.

The function was also attended by the Vice President Mr. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi who contributed Shs.3 million.

The Kwagalana group from Kampala, led by the Minister of the Presidency, Mr. Frank Tumwebaze contributed Shs50 million.

President Museveni lauded the management of St. Henry?s College, Kitovu for teaching entrepreneurship and agriculture noting that there were a lot of opportunities in entrepreneurship and enormous wealth in agriculture.

?When I hear that you teach entrepreneurship, you are giving our children spectacles to see opportunities that other people cannot easily see. I am confident about agriculture because there is wealth in modern commercial farming,? the President noted.

He further praised the Bishop of Masaka Diocese, the Rt. Rev. John Baptist Kaggwa for introducing income generating activities in the rural areas of his diocese that comprises Masaka, Kalungu, Lwengo, Rakai, Kalangala and Sembabule districts.

?I am happy with Bishop Kaggwa because he started a project of development in rural areas. If all families were to get involved, such projects like the construction of school facilities would be easy. That is the way forward because everybody will be empowered,? he said.

Earlier, Bishop Kaggwa led a thanksgiving Mass to celebrate the College?s patron Saint?s day. He appealed to all Christians to emulate the example of St. Henry who was principled and strong in his faith in God.

The Bishop encouraged students of the school to concentrate on their studies and be creative and productive in public life.

St. Henry?s College, Kitovu is a boys boarding Government-aided secondary school that was established by the Catholic missionary congregation of White Fathers in 1922 who in 1927 handed over the running and administration of the school to the Kisubi-based Brothers of Christian Instruction congregation to date.
