Sales and Marketing Manager ? Working in Canada | iTech Review ...

I?m Arnie Josephson. I?m the Canadian and International sales and marketing manager for Brandt industries. Well, I?ve always liked helping people buy things. I?ve always been a people person, so I like communication and finding out what type of things people are needing and trying putting that together. What I find very satisfying about the job of a Sales Manager is when you?ve when you?ve accomplished your goals and you get a call from one of your sales team that they?ve signed up a new dealer and they?re having some success. And you sit back and think, well we worked on that as a team and I was able to steer them in the right direction to accomplish this. So how was the week in the territory? Not too bad Arnie. Met with those guys out there and things are going pretty good. I was just noticing in our 2002 business plan we?ve set a goal of about 50 sprayers in your territory. Are you on track for that? What makes the job challenging is that you have a constantly moving target. The conditions that you?re working with are always changing. Hey Don, we just got word that the financing went through with the Bulgarian deal. So we?re wondering when you?ll have the container organized for shipment. Yes, I just got a note from the container people, that we can start loading the container next Friday. Excellent, good. And how long should I tell them we think it might take to load. We?ll have it loaded the same day. Alright, I?ll let the Bulgarians know that the container should leave next Friday. When you can come in the morning and sit down and decide what it is you need to accomplish, how you?re going to go about it and then start getting the people involved, choosing people for whatever roles they have and seeing this new creation take place. That?s the most exciting thing about the job. Some experience in real life, in working a territory or recruiting new customers is very important before you can help others succeed in what I?m doing. In order to enjoy what I?m doing you have to love people and you have love seeing them succeed, as much as you do yourself. It?s really the sales team, the people you are directing and working with, and it?s their success that gets you your success. As far as the education process goes, the more the better. If you could have a degree in administration, plus some experience would be fantastic. But it is a career where the education can happen as you go through the sales ranks. It?s not mandatory to have a degree to be successful in Sales Management. Typically a Professional Sales Manager, in a company in Canada, the CPSA has a salary survey and they show that the average rates are between 60-80 thousand dollars. It can be a very lucrative profession to be in. It is probably on par with a lot of doctors and highly trained people. Trade shows are one of the major marketing tools we use. As a Sales Manager I would like to go and talk to the end user, to get a feeling for how our programs and products are being accepted in the marketplace. In the future, my goal in Sales is to continue to develop myself as a Sales Manager. That?s to continue to upgrade the education; be it night classes, university, training seminars and courses. Stay in touch with the selling community, as well as with the corporate environment. And try to grow a little bit every year. I would say the rewarding thing is you have instant measurement of your success.
