It all started with a $100000

I have not planned this post in any way, I just started writing my thoughts today.

Going underground, going dark, staying away, turning off, whatever you call it is exactly what I have been doing these last few days.

I have literally been in internet marketing survival mode, completing minimal tasks such as email and help desk tickets, ordering and overseeing content for PLR Monthly and Free Monthly Websites. Why you may be asking?

Well I did have to cut the grass which was getting too long, and also buy some new trees for the front of my house, but that isn?t the reason why I have been so quiet.

It all started with a $100,000 year in 2010

My online friend (and awesome blogger) Adrienne Smith posted an article on her blog about posting for profit. The post prompted me to create a fairly large comment about my business and my first 100k year and how I achieved it. This made me think?

What the hell have I been doing for the last 12 months?

I reached my first 100k year by creating and being involved in product creation, not affiliate marketing, not blogging, not SEO or Adsense. Yes product creation!

Product creation and idea generation is what I am good at, and over the last 12 months I have left it behind for other things such as niche websites and blogging. I know I always wanted to try my hand at niche websites and make an income from Adsense. I did have some degree of success making some days up to $100 per day, but it just doesn?t do it for me and it?s not what I want to do.

I found a new love

Blogging for me is amazing, the power of words and the ability to provide information for people without charge is something very cool indeed. I respect so many guys in the blogging community for what they do and the information they provide. There are too many to list so thanks to all!

I hear people say ?there is no money in blogging?, ?blogging is a waste of time? bla bla bla. It?s funny because I was at a marketers gathering a short while ago and one guy said exactly this to me:

?Man there is no money at all in blogging!?

I replied with:

?It?s not the money it?s the interaction and respect from my readers and subscribers that creates value?

An interested look which sparked in interesting conversation then took place, to which I made my point.

You may notice that my blog is pretty much non profit. I may run a test ad now and then, but for the most part I want my blog to be about what I provide and not what I can make. I see so many new blogs full of ads and recommendations, that it takes the whole purpose of the blog away. Your blog is there to provide information and value, so don?t treat it like an advertising pin board. Be subtle and targeted if you are going to advertise.

I do build my list from my blog, as this is essential and should be done from day one. I do provide recommendations to my mailing list about the stuff I read or bargains to pick up, but not too many as to look like an affiliate marketer. I don?t get 100?s of subscribers per day to waste them on offer after offer, I prefer to provide value rather than push products.

No one said blogging was an easy task. It takes time a lot of effort and good advice to make your blog a popular one. Ask any blogger, it never happens over night and most of them have worked more hours than they can count to make their blogs a place worth visiting.

Can you survive on blogging alone?

I know this is gong to get mixed opinions, but this is how I see it. Blogging in the form of simply writing content over and over again is not going to make you a huge income even if it is brilliant. You may be able to survive on it but without extra income it?s not going to buy you a new car or pay your mortgage.

You need to provide something extra within your blog to earn that income. Take a look at almost every superstar blogger online. Here are a few examples of the blogs I read and follow:

Copyblogger ?Copyblogger media are the creators of Studio Press Framework, Premis landing page software and Premis SEO software among other things. The blog content is the front end traffic generator.

Problogger ? Much the same as Copyblogger in many respects. Problogger creates paid eBooks, physical books and courses. The blog once more is the front end traffic generator by providing free information.

Zen Habits ? Leo Babauta runs an awesome blog about minimalist life. There are no ads on his blog just a subscribe link. He has a following is over 250,000 readers. He has written eBooks and print books as well as blogging.

Smat Passive Income ? Pat Flynn is a little different and one of my favourite bloggers. Pat tells it the way it is and works very hard to create exactly what his blog is about ?Passive Income?. Pat makes an income from product recommendations, niche sites and his Leed Exam website products.

These are just a few examples of the blogs I read and follow, and how they make and income online alternative to their blog. But at the same time using their blog and influence as a tool to create a major income.

What is your blog really doing online? Does it have a purpose? That should be something to think about?

I will talk more about blog purpose in a later post as I seem to be running off topic a little (not that I had one anyway).

So there was a small matter of 100k in 2010

Well I didn?t hit that mark this financial year for the simple reason I have not been in product creation mode. Product creation is something I started with and something I want to get back to. After testing and trying alternative methods of making money online, product creation is what I feel comfortable with and most of all what I enjoy doing.

Something that spurred me on to get back to product development was a trip to Manchester with some marketing friends. You see, I learn from the people I associate with and build relationships with, and I am fortunate to be involved with such brilliant people as John Thornhill, Dave Nicholson, Matt Garret, Simon Hodgkinson, Lee Macintyre and many more.

These guys are my inspiration, and to be in the same room learning from them and taking advice from them about product creation and marketing, kind of makes my chosen niche a no brainer.

?By surrounding yourself with positive and successful people in your niche, you yourself will become positive and successful?.

Do you believe that?

Where were we?

Going underground, going dark, stating away, turning off, whatever you call it is exactly what I have been doing these last few days.

Ok we are back to the beginning again and the reason why I have been all of the above is simple. I?m back in product creation mode. There is way too much distraction going on online to really get any work done. My business is not suffering its growing and I?m working smarter creating time, not wasting it.

Do I need a conclusion?

What the hell. Focus on what aspects of your business you want to be in. try other things by all means, give them a shot just as I have. Do what you feel comfortable with and enjoy what works for you. You will find your way. Once you have stick with it.

Do you have a question or comment?

Let me know below I would love to hear from you.
